Furze Farm Match Report 14/11/2010
The day started off clear dry and bright, then it clouded over, then it started to rain.It then continued to rain until it was time to pack up!
Keith Huggins returned from the Bermuda Triangle looking tanned and rested and won the match with 48lb 12oz of carp caught mainly on the lead, with corn tipped with maggot. From chump to champ in one match! - was it the real Keith that fished or a cloned Keith that turned up? Spooky!!
2nd was Gary Mitchell with 46lb 14oz of carp taken on the pole with pellet.Obviously been forgiven by Buddha in the Himalayas, but what's with all that chanting and bells for 6 hours.Talk about off putting for the rest of us!
3rd was Kelly Longman with 41 lb 7oz consisting mainly of carp caught on the maggot feeder. With Keith winning the match,he also managed to win the league by a point.
Now the Highlights
Baulky was on top form as normal-he started off by snapping his rod rest - his fishing gear is in so many pieces he no longer uses a holdall,he just puts his gear in his pockets!! And talk about unlucky -after the weigh in he found his car had a flat, but it was lucky, it was only at the bottom(Baulkys joke not mine). Keep smiling Richard it can only get better can't it? But the best bit was how Darkie can turn so bitter and twisted at the weigh in. He's been teaching Kelly all that he knows about fishing for the past couple of years and she's come on leaps and bounds, but in this match Kelly totally out fished Darkie and lost him the league title that he so wanted! Even in the pub afterwards his bottom lip was quivering and every time he looked at Kelly you could see the look of a mad man in his eyes! Could this be the singles club starting up again?!
Isn't life sweet!
That's it for the Summer League-restarting in March 2011.
Merry Christmas
P.S I know Gary has taken a lot of stick over 'his' Mitchell cup,but a big thanks has to go to him from everyone for all the work he puts in to organise us so well.
Osprey Lake 24/10/2010
The day started off cold and funny enough ended up cold! Ospreys was well down for water level so pegging by Darkie and Huggins had to be done carefully so we weren't fishing in six inches of water! The fishing started slow and gradually got slower and slower. Top weight for the day was caught by Balky with 29lb-7oz. consisting of the odd Carp and plenty of silvers. Most fish falling to maggot. 2nd with a mixed bag was uncle Roger with 17lb 4oz. And 3rd was Ray Hill with 11lb 5oz. And now the highlights. Although Balky won a few bob for winning the match it's going to cost him more for the days fishing because he managed to break his pole - again!! Young Martin Rann needs to have a re-think on his side bets as he's loosing too many quid's! We also had a bit of a Bermuda Triangle mystery as Huggins started the match in one of his 'picked swims' but come the weigh in he had disappeared into thin air, him, tackle, everything......will he be seen at the final league match as there is only 3 points separating the top three in the league. And one other strange thing - that Gary Mitchell - strange enough he was no where to be seen at this match. After all the stick he took over the Mitchell cup farce he has taken 2 weeks annual leave and has gone to the Himalayas - rumour has it he has been seeking solitude and forgiveness from Buddha!!
Ribbon Lake 03/10/2010
The day started well at 7.30am with a full English breakfast at Sumners organised by Gary. We then fished the Ribbon lake again and managed to set up in the dry,but then the heavens opened up and the wind blew. This continued for a few hours,so everyone got wet even under the umbrellas! This match was a double header, being a league match and as well as the final of the Mitchell Cup. The league match was won by Darkie weighing in 29lb.In second place was Gary Mitchell on 26lb and in third place Keith Huggins on 25lb. Most fish falling to pellet, with a good mix of silver fish for everyone. From start to finish the Mitchell cup has been an absolute farce this year. The final ended up with a 3 way fish off between,Kipper,Keith Huggins and 'that' Gary Mitchell. As you can see Gary came second in the league match so beat Kipper and Keith,so won 'his' Mitchell cup! The thing is Gary got knocked out in the first round of 'his' Mitchell cup,but ends up winning it by arranging a dodgy fish off of all first round losers all because there was a spare space in the original draw! You can guess who won the first round losers fish off! The lengths some people will go to to get a dust collector!!
Sea Fishing Competition
The annual Sea fishing competition was again held at Seaford. The weather wasn't bad considering what the forecast was supposed to be. As for the fishing - the only word that could sum it up was GRIM!! What was surprising was that the mackerel turned up so everyone caught. Unfortunately mackerel don't count for the weigh in so Ray Hill pulled out all the stops again and managed to winkle out a weaver fish of about 2oz to win the competition!! Plus, we had a lovely BBQ on the beach thanks to Colin 'the chef'Temple
Borde Hill Match 12/09/2010
This was to be the last ever match at Borde Hill as the new owners no longer want matches on this great venue. On the day Garys recent run of luck continued as he won his 3rd match on the trot weighing in 88lb-11oz. by fishing 2 swims in the margins with meat on one and corn on the other. In 2nd spot was Darkie with 82lb-6oz also from the margins. We must take our hats off to Kelly Longman who fished a brilliant match weighing in 77lb.-6oz.and finishing in 3rd place. We really must start watching her. She's getting a bit too good for comfort.
Mr & Mrs Match
This was our first ever Mr. and Mrs. competition and it was great to see how much interest there was. The match was held at Henfold lakes and after a lovely breakfast the match got underway.Favorites were Darkie and Kelly and Colin and Deb who all fish regularly but nobody counted on the competitiveness of Sandy Mitchell who went on a bagging mission and with the help of husband Gary(who also caught a couple) took the trophy with a mixed bag weighing in 39lb-3oz.Darkie and Kelly took 2nd with 27lb.-4oz.and Colin and Deb took 3rd with 25lb-7oz.We hope everyone enjoyed the day and who knows, maybe we could do it again next year if only to knock the smile off of Gary and Sandys face!
Ribbon Lake 1/08/2010
This was our first match on this lake which is part of the Sumners Pond complex. It's a snake type lake but without Carp.Gary took top spot on the day by fishing two lines. One at 3 meters and one at 6 meters. After starting on 6mm cubes of meat he changed to 6mm expander pellets as believe it or not he got "BARBELED OUT" with small 3-4 oz. Barbel .He weighed in 29lb-12oz.Kipper fished the match of his life and took 2nd place with 22lb-1oz. on the wagler and Martin Rann also did great to finish 3rd with 19lb-6oz. although he still lost a pound to Gary!!
Woodpeckers Night Match 3-4/07/2010
Congratulations must go to Stu Roddick who won the night match this year. As lesser mortals dozed off Stu fought off sleep and continued netting fish right through the night, finishing with 42lb-7oz.Gary wasn't too far behind with 37lb-1oz and Darkie took third with 28lb...We would all like to say a big thank you to Deb who went out and bought all the food for the barbie and also to Matt. and Mandy for doing all the cooking. They did a great job.
Borde Hill 20/06/2010
Well done to Darkie for being only the second angler in the club to break the one hundred pound mark. He fished a brilliant match using a pole float on a waggler rod with cat meat for bait. He fished in the margins and ended up with 107lb-4oz.Stu also did well taking 60lb -2oz.on the pole with corn and Ray took third on the method and maggot taking 38lb-15oz.Sadly, it looks like this may be our last match at Borde Hill as they aren't going to allow matches in the future.
Pro-Am Henfold Lake 1 30/05/2010
This years pro-am took place at Henfold lakes. It was great to see some new faces as well as the old regulars back on the bank. Darkie and his mate Kezza showed their class once again to take top spot with 40lb-8oz. Gary and John West took silver with 24lb-1oz and Dave and Phillipa Botting took bronze with17lb-5oz. It was a great day which saw Darren Brooker fall in and poor old Del (Wiggy) Sumner blank. He took it well though, he only swore lots. We must say a big thankyou to all the anglers that kindly lent their tackle to the Ams on the day.
Osprey Lake 09/05/2010
Sunday saw us back at Osprey lake.Keith Huggins, fed up with Gary taking the Mick about him always coming second didn,t.He shut him up and came first with 37lb-10oz on what turned out to be a tough day.New face Doug Botting put his name on the map by doing a Keith Huggins and coming second with 23lb dead and Clive Bolter fished a great match taking third spot with14lb-7oz.It was great to see all of our new members catching fish but commiserations must go to Kate Newton who took the Chump of the month award.
Furze Farm 18/04/2010
Gary would like to say sorry as he forgot to mention that it was the Jeff. Lincoln Memorial match on Sunday at Furze Farm. What an idiot. Anyway, congratulations must go to Darkie who won the trophy with 81-15oz of Carp on the method feeder to the island. Keith Huggins came second for the third time in three matches (well you can't say he's not consistent) with 69lb and Gary after a great start ended in third place with 61lb. Chump of the month was Jay Jay, but as it was his first time fishing with us he had a good excuse.
Henfold 28/03/2010
Well what a fun day this turned out! Lake 1 was being dredged which meant that what was stirred up was washed down through the other lakes resulting in poor weights all round. At least this was the very best of many excuses that Gary could come up with for the reason he "BLANKED". Ten of the twenty anglers that took part caught less than a pound. Full credit must go to Roger Apps who took top spot with 3lb-14oz, Keith Huggins was just behind with 3lb-12oz and in 3rd was Mac. with 3lb-2oz. Gary said that it was very kind of Niff Noff to not catch anything either. It was still decided that Niff should come in front of Gary though as he didn't cry so much. Gary took it well but has been unusually quiet since. Watch your back Ingram!
Woodpeckers 07/03/2010
For the first time since our records began the new season kicked off with us all having to break the ice. Light tackle with small hooks was the order of the day and Gary took victory with a mixed bag totaling 17lb-6 oz. Keith Huggins was just behind him with 15-11 and Darkie just behind that with 15lb. dead. We must mention John Powell who scored his highest ever league score. Funny moments came from Ray Hill who fishing the waggler was hooking and losing fish as the ice floated between him and the fish. They obviously weren't Skate!!! Also Colin Temple will now be known as "BARBIE" as he allegedly caught a hook in his jacket and it just wouldn't come out. We wonder why.
As the league don’t seem to be broke I don’t intend to fix it so as always 15 points for 1st down to 1 for 15th but you get an extra point for turning up if you come 15th or below.
Several people have said that they would be quite interested in fishing a Mr. And Mrs. Match. This, as the the name suggests, would run along the lines of the pro-am but we fish with our partners. If any single people want to fish we could try to get volunteers to fish with them. I was thinking of Henfold as a venue as it has clean toilets and a bar for afterwards. Have a word with your better halves and let me know what you think. If there is enough interest I will arrange a date in the summer.
Thanks once again for making it all such good fun and I look forward to seeing you all back on the bank soon. Lets try and beat Macs incredible 155lb-6ozs.
All the best Gary
